School Sponsoring Body
Confucian Academy aims to promote Confucianism and spread the philosophy of Confucianism, with a focus on moral education. The school places great emphasis on cultivating students in the spirit of the Eight Virtues of Confucianism, which are filial piety, brotherly respect, loyalty, honesty, propriety, righteousness, integrity, and self-reflection.。
The academy was founded in 1930 by Dr. Chen Huanzhang. Following Dr. Chen's passing in 1933, Zhu Ruzhen took over as the director until 1942. Zhu later left Hong Kong, and the position of director was taken over by Lu Xiangfu. In 1970, Lu Xiangfu passed away, and the position was taken over by Huang Yuntian. In 1992, Huang Yuntian recommended Dr. Tong Yun Kai to take over as director, a position which he holds to this day.
Since 1977, the Confucian Academy has erected statues of Confucius throughout Hong Kong. Since Dr. Tong Yun Kai took over as director in 1992, the academy has continued to erect statues of Confucius and build Confucian temples throughout China and around the world. In addition to donating to hospitals and supporting academic activities related to Confucianism both domestically and internationally, the academy has also applied to the Hong Kong SAR government for permission to build a Confucian temple. In recent years, the academy has also been promoting community services such as caring for the elderly and supporting children, through activities such as student performances, fundraising, carnivals, and medical consultations, all in order to promote the Confucian and Mencian philosophy of "benevolence and love for others".
